Operating principle of humidifiers – Evaporation humidifier
Humidifier converts water into moisture and spreads into the surrounding air, thus increasing the humidity. Basically, there will be a water tank and a fan as essential components. The water is converted into moisture inside the humidifier and thereafter is circulated using a heavy duty fan fitted inside the machine.
We are supplying only evaporation humidifier which evaporates water and converts into humidity.
Do you need Portable humidifiers?
We are also supplying portable humidifiers which are small sized high-performance machines which can be moved around in a house or apartment. Due to the small size, there are also called portable humidifiers. These also are evaporation type and works on the same principle as explained above.
What should you ask the humidifier supplier on selection process?
The humidification capacity is determined by calculating the required evaporation capacity of the machine. As an example, we will consider a room of 500 cubic meter size in which the present humidity is 30%RH which need to be increased to 60%RH. We will consider the room temperature as 25. If you provide these details to the humidifier supplier, he will calculate the required evaporation capacity as 3.5 liters per hour. This means that a machine with evaporation capacity of 3.5 liters per hour is required to achieve and maintain the required humidity levels.
What should you ask the humidifier supplier on other features?
While selecting a machine you may ask the following details to select the right machine:
- The capacity of the water tank. If the capacity of the water tank is high, you do not need to replace the water frequently.
- Check whether there is a hygrostat. A hygrostat is an instrument which can be adjusted in the humidifier to the desired level. (exactly similar to thermostat of an AC unit, but hygrostat is for humidity settings)
- Check about cleaning method and frequency of filters.
- Check whether you can use tap water or do you need to use distilled water. Tap water humidifiers are preferred since same can be refilled easily.
- Check if any water cleaning agents / hygiene agents are required. If the humidifier is not used continuously, stagnant water in the tank will cause the growth of algae and mold. There are cheap cleaning agents available which can be simply kept in the water tank. If the tank is properly cleaned periodically, this may not be required.
- Is the model fitted with a UV Lamp sterilization.

Some models come with UV lamp sterilization method, which keeps the water sterilized using UV rays. This feature might be available in high capacity machines and is an added feature which prevents contamination of water.
Industrial and commercial humidifier
These are high capacity evaporation humidifiers with rugged construction for tough handling and hence are known as an industrial humidifier or commercial humidifiers. The working principle is same as explained earlier and can be used in warehouses, factories, halls, big offices etc.
